24 glances. Photography Exhibition
The title of the exhibition is taken from the Spanish Title “24 Miradas de Raval” which referred to the 24 images that captured aspects of life in the district of Raval in Barcelona.
The project was prepared by 24 individuals from Romania, Ireland, Catalunya (Spain) and France. The pictures are based on the theme of immigration and look at the lives of migrants in the district of Raval in Barcelona, and the impact their presence has had on the neighbourhood.

“Make Your Mark…Volunteer!”
Be a part of Ireland’s biggest ever collective art exhibition on volunteering! On Saturday, 24 May Volunteering Ireland will have stands with art supplies along with special blank postcards set up around Dublin City. We will ask people to participate by creating a drawing, collage, painting, poem, etc… giving expression to their view of volunteering and will host the strongest entries on our website. Our hope is to put together an installation of the work at an upcoming Volunteering Ireland event.

Volunteer Appreciation Trip to Rotterdam
Dublin Zoo Volunteers on tour again this time with a visit to Rotterdam Zoo. Twenty two people, a mixture of staff and volunteers, are heading over to Rotterdam on Friday 23rd May for a social event organised by Rachael, Volunteer Co-ordinator in Dublin Zoo. Our director, Leo Oosterweghel, is also joining us on our trip. We will spend all day Saturday 24th May in Rotterdam Zoo enjoying their animals and hopefully get to meet staff and volunteers from their zoo to share stories and also best practice. On Sunday 25th May our volunteers will have the choice to return to the zoo or visit the many sites of Rotterdam or Amsterdam from where we will depart on Sunday evening to return home tired but exhilarated from our trip to Holland!

Tuesday, 27 May 2008 – European Neighbours’ Day
Dublin City South Volunteer Centre
Know your Neighbour! We are delighted to be celebrating European Neighbours’ Day with over seven million people right across Europe. Anyone from the community is warmly invited to pop into Ballyfermot Civic Centre for a cuppa, chat and bit of craic! Enjoy entries from the local schools competition on ‘How to be a good neighbour’, contribute to our creative space, enjoy the photographic exhibition of ‘A Time to Dance’ which features residents who appeared in the Ann Henrick/Maeve Binchy book, ‘A Time to Dance’ And find out way you can be a good neighbour by visiting the stands of local community organisations.

Dublin Zoo
Dublin Zoo is opening the gates free of charge for all volunteers in Dublin. Simply bring either an identification badge or a letter from the organisation (on letterhead) stating that you volunteer with them and you will be welcomed! Let’s Walk & Talk
As part of European Neighbours’ Day 2008: “New shores, ancient footprints – the Jewish community in Dublin”. Join Us for a leisurely walking tour with Dublin historian, Pat Liddy. Walk lasts approximately 90 minutes and will include a tour of the Jewish Museum. Reception afterwards at Tailors Hall (Christchurch back lane, off Nicolas Street) with a screening of the short film “Blind Eye”, panel discussion and more!

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast
The National Braille Production Centre would like to announce they are holding a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on the 27th May 2008. The event is being held in celebration of Dublin City Volunteer Week. We’ll be beginning the celebration with a special breakfast morning in honor of our dedicated volunteers who have helped us so much over the years. There shall be some Braille demonstrations throughout the morning followed by a demonstration of “Moon” by manager Ilka Staglin. The breakfast shall be held at 10.30am and the demonstrations shall be over at 3.30pm. VSO
International volunteering charity VSO will be holding a stimulating and provocative exhibition of work from widely acclaimed international photojournalists at Panos Pictures in the lobby of The Capel Building on Tuesday the 27th of May. This moving exhibition depicts children living in Ethiopia. It explains their aspirations in terms of what they want to be when they grow up, and so hints at the importance of education to help them achieve their goals.
